Conferences are part of most people’s business lives, with many of us attending them for work or out of personal choice, and they tend to have quite generic subject matter and follow a similar format. However over recent weeks I′ve come across quite a few popular conference that are really out of the what you normally see and so I′ve rounded up a few to share.
First up is the National Pheasant Fest , an annual event held in the US celebrating all that is wildlife conservation, hunting & habitat management related. Organised by Pheasants Forever & Quail Forever, the event includes pheasant hunting and dog training seminars and is pitched as an event for all the family. You’ve missed it for 2010 but all you pheasant fans can catch the 2011 one in Omaha, NE.
Pheasants not your thing? Then another American event Cheese-a-Topia may be more your kind of thing. The American Cheese Society’s annual get together is in Seattle this year and the two components which stood out for me are the cheese making workshops and the opportunity to get inside the mind of a cheese consumer, but there are plenty more keynote addresses, seminars and interactive demonstrations to keep all amused.
Staying on the food theme, we have probably my favourite of these conferences, The New Zealand Ice Cream Manufacturers Association Conference. This is held every year alongside the Ice Cream Awards and celebrates ice cream manufacturers and their innovations, with one of last years winners being a Creamy Chocolate & Raspberry with a Hit of Chilli ice cream-yum!
No round up of weird or unusual conferences would be complete without mentioning the Weird Paranormal Conference. This annual conference covers all things paranormal and at Weird 10 guest speakers will discuss everything from unexplained sheep attacks to the Loch Ness Monster.
So those are some the unusual and unexpected conferences I have heard of and thats without even getting started on conferences that are held in unusual venues- maybe I′ll write about that at a later date.
Like the sound of some of these conferences? Well an unusual could be the perfect base for a corporate team building event! Or if you want to host a conference of your own then why not look at North West conference facilities
