Some Ideas To Consider When Buying A Notebook Computer

by Guest Author on August 26, 2010

You can’t possibly imagine that all people all over the world could for whatever reason be less connected than they are now thanks to the advent of the internet. It has brought so many people together from all over the world that it has shrunk the globe by leaps and bounds. All you need is a computer, a laptop or even a phone. These are ubiquitous and not hard to find.

The best way to get online is via a laptop or notebook computer. And there are many. But there are some things to keep in mind when you are thinking about buying one: Hardware specs, portability and the ability to upgrade your computer when it gets old.

Take into account hardware, for example. Some people like to play video games on their computers while others just want to browse the internet and edit text documents. These are very different uses.

Don’t just buy whatever computer seems nice. Some things are more expensive and your tastes may change over time. Do you think you will need more computer in future than you do now? Then you will want to buy more computer than you think you will need. So be a little cautious in this regard.

The ability to upgrade a computer is another important factor. When you run out of hard drive space, you may just toss the old computer and get a new one. But often improving your computer may be the cheaper and easier option.

This is a doubly important thing to think about if you are one of the people who likes to use peripheral devices like printers and usb drives. But not so much if you are not this type of computer user, or someone who is likely to need these things.

The last thing to think about is the ability of yourself to haul your computer around with you. If you have a laptop, odds are you will want to move it around some.

It is important to have a sturdy and lightweight computer if you are the type of person who goes around a lot of the time to use it. If you don’t move around a lot, then maybe it is not so important after all.

Make sure you are buying the right computer by keeping these things in mind: Speed, upgrades and mobility. Basically it isn’t so hard to think about.

Choosing The Right POS System For Your Business

by Guest Author on August 26, 2010

If you operate a retail or service business, a POS system can make your life much easier. Transactions can be recorded at the touch of a button or by simply scanning a product. But as with many systems, there are many different options available on the market. When looking for the best system for your business, it is helpful to know more about your options and business needs.

What Is a POS System?

POS is an acronym for Point of Sale. Most retail businesses operate on integrated all-in-one POS systems. This allows them to tally up sales and update inventories all in one transaction. This can all then be linked to back office accounting which makes the administration tasks of any business much easier. Typically, the features of a POS system will be a scanning device, keyboard, computer screen, and software that link the system components together. Most systems also have a link to a credit card processing machine so transactions can be easily processed for customers paying with credit cards.

Things to Consider When Choosing a POS system for Your Retail Store

The first and somewhat obvious consideration is what type of product you are selling. You will also need to decide on what pricing system you will be implementing. Most POS systems work on a bar coding mechanism where the price is stored in the computer system and called up when the item is rung up by the teller. If you are selling clothing items, sticker tags are not suitable as they often pull or fall off when customers try on the clothes. Most likely, you will need to use a price tag system where the barcode is on a cardboard tag that is attached to the clothing with a plastic or string tag. If you have items that can be easily picked up and come in solid packaging, you can use stickers. Many commercial products have the barcodes incorporated into their packaging. For these, you will need a POS system that allows you to program a specific price for that product. If you have larger products that require carts to move them, you will need a POS system that has a hand-held scanning device. This is so the customer does not need to lift the heavy product out of the cart just to get it scanned. You also need to consider the location of your POS system in the store. It needs to be near the exit so people pass it on their way out. But at the same time, it needs to be in a secure place so you are not a prime target for theft.

What Different Types of POS Systems Are Available?

In a restaurant, you will need a different system to a retail store. For most restaurants, a POS system with a touch screen is used. Typically, a waiter logs into the system by swiping their card and then inputs the order on the touch screen. This will then generate the order through to the kitchen and the billing system. There are generally no scanners in restaurant POS systems because there are no products to scan. In a retail store, most POS systems work on barcode scanning software. Items are scanned using either a fixed or hand-held scanner and the price is automatically drawn from the system.

Where Can You Find the Best Value POS Systems?

Once you have done your research on which POS system is best suited to your business, you can start to compare prices from various computer retail stores. There are some shops that specialize in business computer systems and they may be able to offer you the best prices. Many of these expert retail computer shops also have online stores where you can purchase the products and then have them shipped to you. Often, if you browse online, you can compare the prices of several different online stores and then find the one that has the best deal. An advantage of shopping this way is that you do not need to get into your car and drive to the mall or computer store in order to get your system. You can simply order online and then wait for them to deliver it. Often, you can request that they send out a technician to install the system and help you to get it up and running. This is great value as you will probably have your hands full with other responsibilities.

The Benefits Of Using Intuit QuickBooks Over Paper Ledgers

by Guest Author on August 26, 2010

Traditionally, business accounts were kept in paper journals and ledgers. This is format that most accountants learned to use over the years. However, the advent of technology programs, such as Intuit QuickBooks, have provided easier ways to manage your business accounts. While computer-oriented accountants and bookkeepers love the convenience of new technology, more traditional accountants may be weary of the systems. If you still need some convincing, here are some reasons why changing to Intuit QuickBooks could be beneficial for your business.

Secure Business Records

With paper ledgers, you generally only have one copy of your books. These need to be safely stored away and are always at risk of getting damaged or stolen. If your office building were to catch fire and your ledgers were not safely stored in a fireproof safe, you could effectively lose all your business’s accounting records. With the Quickbooks software program, you back up your data and keep the backup copies off site. If your computers are stolen or damaged, the data will not be lost and can simply be reloaded on to another computer. In this way, your business can continue to operate effectively without interruption.

Easy Search Features

When you need to look up information on a particular client, a month’s sales figures or specific payments to suppliers, it can be a tedious task if you have paper ledgers. You first need to find the appropriate ledger and then page through it until you find the right information. This can be both time consuming and frustrating. With a QuickBooks software package, you can use the search feature to pull data from the system quickly and easily. If you are looking for transaction information on a specific client, you can call up the client file and get the details of all of their transactions and invoices for the month. In a similar way, if you want to look up the sales figures for a particular month or week, you can simply call up the invoices for that period. You can also use this information to create charts and graphs for presentation purposes.

No Need for Replication

At some point in time, a paper ledger will fill up and you will need to transfer information from one ledger to another. You need to make sure that the information is transferred accurately and follows on that from the previous journal. If you need to have copies of this information, the only way that you can do that is to photocopy the ledgers or rewrite parts of them. With a software accounting system such as QuickBooks, you will never need to do this. The data and accounts information is securely stored in the system, and reports and information can be drawn from the data at any time. Once a client file is created, it is there in the system and can hold as much data as required. When you need to send out invoices or statements to your clients, you can simply draw the information directly from the system. There is no need to write and address invoices and envelopes.

Interface with Credit Card Processing

With paper ledgers, you will need to manually record all the credit card transactions processed by your business. You then need to balance this with your banking account when the funds clear in your merchant account. A new feature in QuickBooks incorporates credit card processing into the software system. This means that when you process a credit card transaction, it automatically records it into your company’s books. In addition, it stores the customer’s credit card details in a secure folder so you can refer back to the information if you need it at a later date.

Easier Employee Handover

With manual paper ledgers, it takes some time to train a new staff member with the procedures of your particular company. While there are generally accepted accounting practices, accountants and bookkeepers often create their own filing systems according to their personal preferences. When a new employee starts, they need to become accustomed to the accountant’s personal systems. With QuickBooks, all the information is stored on the software system. Anyone who is already trained in and familiar with QuickBooks will require less training to get up to speed with your company’s systems. There may be a few unique ways in which you do things but most times new employees who are already proficient in working in QuickBooks can generally hit the ground running. This saves your company time and money in the long run.

Symptoms Connected With A Malicious Software Infection

by Guest Author on August 25, 2010

One of the most common issue encountered and complained by many computer users is the sudden slow down of their computer’s performance and the appearance of numerous pop-up advertisements, one after the other, every time that they are logged on to the internet. Even those with a nearly completely new computer will find themselves complaining about how long it will require to download data, start up the computer or process emails. Poor performance and the frequent popping up of advertisement can be caused by the malicious software gotten from the internet that has taken over your device and not because you got a bad computer.

Malicious software, commonly known as “malware”, can easily take up a computer’s resources. When there is a virus on your pc, it might be following all your activities online and sends out emails using your account on an hourly basis, plus popping up advertisements on your screen often.. All the activities executed by the virus slow down the computer’s performance because the virus attacks the memory and network bandwidth of the computer by taking up most of it.

To make matters even worse, if someone has a machine that is not protected against Malware or malicious software, There are not just one, but a wide variety of malicious software lurking in the world wide web and an unprotected computer makes the matter worse for the user since it is more easily penetrated by these malicious softwares. Computer that does not have any protection against malware is a good spot for malicious software and if one can get in then hundreds can get in. One virus on a computer can make it run slow it down quite a bit, but many viruses can make a computer nearly unproductive.

Malicious software does not only slow down the performance of your computer by using up your computer’s resources, it also takes over your computer and get personal data from it. Most of these viruses conceal themselves as anti-virus application and will start telling you that your machine is infected and that you need to click on the displayed button to obtain a product that will “resolve” the problem. Once you enter your credit card information to pay for the fix, it might go away for a while, but your credit card number is now in the hands of someone you don’t want having it. The pop-up telling you about the virus will not stop until you click on the bait or find help elsewhere.

In order to solve the problem of virus infection and malicious software so you can have your computer back to its normal state running smoothly and your data and personal information protected, you must get a malicious software removal tool. This anti – malicious software tool scans your computer for any viruses and malware then remove them from your computer. It also secures your computer for future malicious software attacks and virus infections to keep your computer running efficiently all the time.

When you encounter poor performance in your computer, your device may be infected by malicious software and a malicious software removal tool can solve this problem and bring back the efficiency of your computer.

As a consequence of technology, it’s simple to get Microsoft virus protection software.

Understanding More About Spywares And The Harm They Bring To Your Computer

by Guest Author on August 24, 2010

Are you getting constant random pop up ads when you start your computer? Does it take a while to boot up or randomly just shut off? Worse yet, does it freeze while you′re in the middle of an assignment and you lose everything that was on the file? The frustrations of this can be paramount and you′re no alone if this happens to you.

If you are experiencing any or all of these problems with your computer, you are probably being invaded by spy ware and are not the only one to experience these problems.

According to a survey by CNN 90% of the computers connected to the internet have had or do have some form of spyware on their computer. Most of which are undetectable until it over takes your computer.

These viruses can range from cookies to Trojan horses and also vary in severity. Computers have been known to have more than 1000 viruses at one time.

Some viruses are fairly harmless and will only track your browsing history, while other viruses are known to steal personal information such as password or even credit card information.

One way that spyware can find its way onto your computer without you ever knowing is simply through visiting a web page. However, the most common way for viruses to make themselves at home on your computer is through downloading and file shares like kazaa and bearshare.

At this point, you are probably looking for some ways to get rid of these pesky viruses and get your computer back to functional again. What are your possible options? Are there any products that can remove these things? It seems like everything out there either costs a ton of money to get going, or it ends up making your machine even slower than it was before you installed it. Doesn′t that sound familiar? Unfortunately, it seems that many of the products on the market fit this bill.

Believe it or not, the solution to your problem is rather simple. You just need a program that will remove the spyware and prevent it from coming back. One software to do such work is ParetoLogic’s XoftSpySE.

How To Write And Effective Software Validation Plan

by Guest Author on August 24, 2010

The Quality System regulation requires that software validation processes be monitored and controlled so that when changes or process deviations occur, a manufacturer will know how to review and evaluate the process and perform revalidation when appropriate. Proper computer and software validation requires documented procedures in place for evaluating when revalidation is required. Computer systems specifications in a regulated environment must comply with the requirements of the various good practices such as planning, verification, testing, traceability, configuration management and many other aspects of good software engineering. Extensive software validation is still required at installation and at regular intervals throughout a system’s life span, to ensure compliance with regulatory demands.

To ensure that the validation and testing of software systems in the most cost-efficient manner and in the least time possible, the following measures should be taken into account: 1. Carry out an evaluation of crucial needs for the validation of software. 2. Drafting software validation project specifications for client approval. Software can be supplied as “validated”, in the sense that it has been verified in-house by the vendor to conform with, and function according to project specifications. 3. Create a matrix of testing scripts suited to meet those needs. 4. Report the outcomes of the comprehensive testing, including completeness metrics. The software is tested in the specific application in which it is used. Tests are carried out and documented for key operational functions, including security, on a component level as well as for the whole system. 5. Re-validation to accommodate changes due to current upgrades and system maintenance. 6. Maintain a state of compliance for the validated software. The ultimate responsibility for ensuring compliance with current regulations however lies with the end user.

An effective software validation strategy is necessary to develop, verify, install, and maintain computerized systems. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that a well-organized validation plan to computer system validation projects is in place to achieve a compliance state and ensure that hardware and software function is as intended, the process executed is controlled and data is processed as intended, the right level of documentation is developed, an effective program is in place, and appropriate training programs are implemented for relevant personnel. Validation plans are documents that express the philosophy of the company and how the members intend to build a suitable representation for the on-going project. The plan should also state who is responsible for performing every validation activity, identifying the nature and scope of the inspection, conducting series of tests, outlining the framework to be followed to accomplish the validation. Once reviewed the validation plan should then be signed off by the associated project team members.

Project validation plans should be well presented. It is the initial document that would receive utmost attention. The enumerated project verification activities will gauge the team’s ability to handle the system validation project. A validation report is written as a result of the tracing. A verification report is written as a result of a test. It contains the problems discovered and, if available, solutions to these. The QA’s endorsement will help to ensure that the plan followed the regulatory requirements and conforms to the existing written actions in the computer system validation.

A validation project plan can be created to split the validation effort into smaller more manageable units in case of larger systems. Multiple versions of the plan and protocols could be required with intern or partial reports. It is of paramount importance that every decision on software criticality is documented, reviewed and approved by QA, and the client or their representative, prior to initiation of the design process then QA should provide an endorsement that the plan conforms to the current written procedures on computer systems validation. Validation plans and associated schedules are live documents that should be reviewed periodically to make sure that the plan is always current.

Senior managers are presented with the total expenditure including maintenance during the conceptualization process. Maintenance of existing software comprises over 70% of all allocation spent by a software organization and this charge will be passed on to the customer. Most development of computer systems falls short due to the poor gathering of requirements. During the software life cycle it is necessary to trace the user, software, and component requirements as well as the integration tests to architectural units described in the integration test plans, system tests to software requirements as described in the system and acceptance tests to users. It is better to invest soundly from the beginning; this will ensure a bountiful harvest in the future.

Why Game Developers Employ Pro Gamers

by Guest Author on August 24, 2010

In the last few years the whole gaming industry has dramatically improved. The much improved technology of today makes the playing and interacting of video games a much more exciting opportunity for all those concerned. The excellent graphics and video enhancements have taken this sort of activity to a brand new level.

The new breed of video gamers out there is now looking for games that can capture their attention and draw them into the surreal world of the video game. They now look to get fully engrossed in the game as though they are actually there in person. Now many big organizations have started to offer large amounts of money to these video game players.

There are now a lot of game developers, software companies and game promoters that now hire many of these gamers for various roles because of their skill on the video games. This new breed of gamer is now known as the pro gamers.

There are pro gamers around that can be given contracts by large companies to take part in either team events or individual events at large gaming tournaments. The company sponsoring them would literally pay for any costs that these pro gamers incur from paying for their travel and duration of the stay at these tournaments to actual practice sessions.

There are now many tournaments and gaming events that are held throughout the year and all over the world. Some of the games that often have sponsored pro gamers are Counter-strike, Fifa, Quake3, Warcraft3, Quake 4 and much more.

Large corporations such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Intel often sponsor these tournaments that offer large cash prizes for the eventual winners. This can sometimes be as much as $400,000.

A lot of gamers can actually get paid by the game makers for beta testing the game before they go out on general sale. This is because the gamers can test them and give the company good feedback as to whether the game needs improvement in any areas.

Game testers will often be given contracts to test these games on behalf of the manufacturers and paid for their services after the contract has been fulfilled. This means that you could effectively make a career out of playing video games.
