2. Think about what type of activities interest you and talk to people who are doing it for a living. For example, if you are interested in science, you may benefit from talking to a scientist to find out what the job entails. Contacting professional associations may help you to make this happen.
3. Take a look at what your talents and skill sets are. Oftentimes, what we do well can give us an indication of a career path, so really be honest in your own assessment. As an example, if you are an introvert, then a customer service position would probably not be a good fit for you. Putting down on paper what you can and can’t do may be helpful as you map out your future.
4. Keep in mind that the rate of unemployment across the country is exceptionally high, and take a hard look at the field you′re considering. Think about whether it will be possible to find a position in that profession after you′ve honed your skills and worked toward that end.
